Route plan 3D
Amata is a spring-time "default". It's a major whitewater course, easy reachable and popular route for everybody who needs some more adrenaline, which is expressed in per-cent from personal skill level to Class 2 river complexity... So, if you don't care too much about paddling basics, you are to get what you looking for!
The average slope of the river is about 6m/km.
At the water level from 110 to 135cm (Melturi station) - you'll get a pretty technical low volume ride with the most of problems arising from strainers and fallen trees. Take a camera with you, stop at one of such places and you'll have a nice gallery of those extreme expressions. Yes, it is wise to take a throw bag with you.
At the levels above 150cm you can get a new set of emotions. You should be able to negotiate waves and eddies and paddle away from some ugly places in prety turbulent water. 3-star personal skill level is recommended.
Put-in and take out locations.
The most popular put-in place is at the A2 road bridge, but you can go one bridge higher to Amata village. This wil add 1.5 hour to you trip.
The section below the A2 bridge down to Karli - Ligatne road bridge, which is assumed to be the best place to take-out, will take 3-3.5 hours to complete. The last 20 minutes from Zvarta rock is the most atractive part of the route.
