Tallish one day route along small and snaky river. If becomes tedious can be finished also in various places, the route goes quite close to transportation roads. Usually it doesn't become boring, but paddlers run out of time. Engure routes are tricky – if you are not experienced, crossing beaver dams take much time.
Route is proper for fishing, however if you intend to go in one day you will not have enough time for that. Route can be extended to two days thus fully enjoying small river's charm. In this case it is possible to include also Usma lake (+11 km) in one end and Puze lake (+7,5 km until first bridge) in other end. See route Usma – Engure – Puze lake for reference. Distance by road increases considerably.
When taking this route it has to be considered, that the part of the Usma lake Luziķērte, from which falls out Engure river belongs to the Moricsala Nature Reserve. Presence here is allowed only with special permissions from related authorities.
Permissions are issued by Administration of the Slitere Nature Reserve in Dundaga, however we do not remember, they've actually done this. It is considered, that authorities will not have objections if you stay on waterline Usma – Engure outfall. So, keep the course!
